Pat Rodgers Bio
When you first meet artist pat Rodgers, you see a face with a broad and welcoming smile and are instantly charmed. As you observe her art, you see vibrant and colorful paintings, creative collages and handmade papers, all created by the artist herself.
Pat, originally from LaCrosee, Wisconsin, had always had a love of art and color, but chose nursing as a career, and entered college to receive her RN degree. While in college, she met the love of her life, her husband Jack.
Pat always loved children and aimed to be a pediatric nurse, but her own family grew rapidly…nine boys and one girl! Needless to say, with that brood there was little time for art.
When her youngest entered Kindergarten, Pat finally had the opportunity to pursue her love of art. She graduated from Cal State Long Beach at the age of 40 plus with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
She worked for a while in a paper making studio in Santa Ana with four other artists and loved it, which gave her the incentive to work independently. Her work is varied and ever changing. Her passion for shapes and color and texture is evident in each new piece. She still attends workshops and classes, always looking to learn.
For a few fortunate students, she teaches live figurative drawing classes here at “Our Studio” at Westervelt’s. Pat is now 83 years young and is a gift to everyone who meets her.
“Painting is the greatest joy of my life. I love everything about it: color, it’s emotional impact, the trackings of the brush upon the canvas are all very important to me. The more I paint, the more I discover myself”
